Cole shoots a flare, setting the anaconda on fire and exploding the container, killing the other snakes. ![]() Gail tricks the snake into biting their fuel container. The vine holding Sam also gives way, but she climbs out of the pit as one of the anacondas tries to get her. The spider he used earlier escapes from its jar and bites him. As the others try to reach Sam, Jack reaches for the backpack. Sam threatens to drop the flowers into the pit, but Jack threatens to shoot the others in response. Jack orders her to throw him the backpack. Sam is forced to cross the pit via a thin log to fill a backpack with orchids. Jack shoots Bill in the arm to keep him from attacking and forces the party to accompany him to the orchids, which grow above a pit in which a ball of male anacondas are mating with the female. Bill throws his knife and impales the snake through the head, freeing Cole. The team follows to find him being constricted. Sam beheads it with a machete, but another snake captures the hysterical Cole. A terrified Cole escapes from the cave, seconds ahead of the snake, which gets stuck in the hole. Bill, looking for the two, finds Tran's lost flashlight floating in bloody water. He is found by Tran, who then gets pulled under and eaten. Cole gets lost and finds human skeletons. On the way, they fall into a cave trying to escape from an anaconda. Unable to make another raft, they hack through the jungle to beat Jack to the orchids and retrieve their raft. Bill sets the building on fire, but notices the snake has escaped. An anaconda swallows Gordon alive as she informs the others, who arrive as it finishes. Jack joins the others at the raft, but a suspicious Sam discovers Gordon and the spider bite. The now-sociopathic Jack fails to convince him to continue with the expedition, so he paralyzes Gordon using a previously collected spider to stop him from informing the others. Gordon discovers that Jack has hid Livingston's radio and gun. Jack still wants to find the flowers, but the others rebel and start building an escape raft to leave the jungle. Jack realizes the orchids must be nearby, while Gail contends that the orchids may not work on humans. Evidently, the orchids are a part of the food chain, and these snakes grow over unusually long lives. They find a small native village and a disembowelled anaconda, a pair of human legs hanging out of the snake's abdomen, and an orchid remain. They call for Bill's friend, John Livingston, who lives on the river, to join them, only to find Livingston attacked and his boat wrecked. However, most of the team demand that the expedition be called off. Bill assures them that it was the largest snake he has ever seen and that it should take weeks for it to grow hungry again. A giant anaconda emerges from the water and swallows Ben whole. Their boat goes over a waterfall and breaks apart. At one point, Gail falls into the water, loses her phone, and is attacked by a crocodile before Bill rescues her. I began to be able to notice slight differences, and determine about 65% of the time. The truth is that I have a very hard time differentiating a lossless file from a well encoded 320 file (one that I ripped from the original). Then I set up some simple double blind tests. I had adamantly believed hi-rez > lossless > compressed because everyone said it was. And try blind testing if possible to eliminate the optimism bias. Either it makes a difference or it does not. I say be open to possibilities, and be honest. I think both of these stances are a bit off point. these things make an obvious difference you can hear if you have "good ears". Cables (burn-in, hi-rez etc) make no difference, and anyone who who does is delusional. It seems like the two predominate opinions are 1. I also like how they have this airy electric sound to them with certain songs. Soundstage is wide with a nice sense of height but unfortunately no depth or holographic sound I was really hoping for. No pressure on the jaw that I usually hate so these seem like they would be comfortable for long listening sessions. These are extremely comfortable, maybe even more than my Fidelio x2’s. Swapping over to hybrid pads made these instantly sound so much livelier. Arguing about it is as pointless as arguing about politics. I've come to believe that there are just two different belief systems here, each with their own seemingly legitimate arguments, and proponents. I respect your opinion on the faulty cable thing. Having not heard the OCC, I would not have had any opinion on the AQ. I have 2 sets of the stock AQ cables and both sound the same. What I am hearing with the NH cable is an extremely obvious difference in all the frequency "zones". I just try to be honest about what I'm hearing, and will do blind comparisons if possible. I can't, but I'm not going to impute others for saying they can. If someone can hear the difference between a $5K cable and a $10K one, or between a 96khz and 192khz file, all the power to them. My opinion on this is pretty much agnostic, and personal preference. I've been in them, and on both sides of the argument. I don't want to get into an argument here either. ![]() Old library books on shelves12/24/2023 ![]() ![]() But how do my own books fit into this system? The Religion section (200s) has 7 subsections devoted to Christianity and only 1 for “Other Religions.” Looking at this system, I can clearly see what were considered important subjects to its creator. This same bias is present in the section on Literature (800s). Only European languages have their own subsections, revealing the Eurocentric bias this system was based on. Under this section, there are subsections for English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, Latin, Greek, and Other languages. For example, Language books are shelved in the 400 section. Looking at systems like Dewey, we can clearly see some of the biases inherent in this system. Maybe you might have more books about American history or self-help guides. For example, I clearly have a love for speculative fiction, mysteries, and the theater since I have entire shelves devoted to those subjects. One of the most interesting things about classification systems is that you can see what people consider important based on what they use to classify their books. There are ten main sections: Computer Science, Information and General works Philosophy and Psychology Religion Social Sciences Language Science Technology Arts and Recreation Literature and History and Geography. ![]() It uses numbers with decimal points to organize books by subject. Created by Melvill Dewey in 1876, this system is used across America in school and public libraries. For any books not in the catalog, I used charts on these systems to classify the books myself. For the first two, I used the Library of Congress’s catalog to look up my books and find the call numbers there. But what if it could be better? What if I could apply a library system to make my bookshelf more organized? I decided to find out by sorting my books through three systems: Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress, and the Library Company’s own Smith system. This system isn’t terrible after all, I can find books when I want to read them. Shelf 4: Instructional books collectable literature Shelf 3: Plays and books related to theater more literature Shelf 2: Mystery books more literature queer books Shelf 1: Science fiction, fantasy, and fairy tales literature from the 21st century My own bookcase has a pseudo-classification system which I have decided to name the SystEm. ![]() I suspect that in reality we just stuff the books wherever they fit. Most of us would probably like our own bookshelves to work in a similar way. If you go into a library looking for books on baking, you’d probably appreciate finding all the baking books together. The main guiding principle behind these systems is making it easier for patrons to browse. Libraries usually use standardized classification systems to organize their books.
